Northrop Grumman [NOC] and Lockheed Martin [LMT] are likely to vie for an Army contract that would establish an open architecture to integrate existing and future air and missile defense sensors; weapons; and command, control, communications and computers.
The program could be worth several hundred million dollars in the initial stages and eventually up to $1 billion, according to Frank Moore, vice president and general manager for Northrop Grumman's missile defense division. An official from Lockheed Martin said the company was also interested in the program.
