Police Commissioner William Bratton met privately Friday with Muslim leaders in an effort to ease tensions over a brawl at a Harlem mosque and the police shooting of a cleric's son.
The commissioner, backed by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, had insisted that the meeting take place without the Rev. Al Sharpton and attorney C. Vernon Mason -- a condition that scotched an earlier encounter.
The details and exact location of the hour-long meeting between Bratton, Chief of Department David Scott and four members of the Nation of Islam were not disclosed.
