Fed: Vaile gives cool response to fossil fuel import ban

Deputy Prime Minister MARK VAILE has given a cool response .. to a top scientist's
call to ban fossil fuel imports by 2020.

Mr VAILE says he's not sure if the target's achievable.

Scientist and Australian of the Year .. Professor TIM FLANNERY .. says we should set
fuel targets to help stop global warming .. including banning petrol imports.

He says places like Sweden plan to stop petrol imports by 2020 .. and have started
weaning themselves off fossil fuels.

But Mr VAILE says Australia should instead find a way to develop clean coal .. and
use more of the less damaging motor fuels .. particularly biodiesel and ethanol.
